Every Stack, One Installer
Use the arrow keys, press Enter, and the installer builds your stack. Standalone Sensors come in four combinations:
- IIS + MySQL
- IIS + PostgreSQL
- Apache2 + MySQL
- Apache2 + PostgreSQL
Each one installs Snort, Npcap, Barnyard2, Webserver, Database, PHP, and the BASE console, fully configured. Workstation deployments finish in about 15 minutes.
Need more sensors? Choose Remote Node and the installer sets up Snort and Barnyard2 on that machine, reporting back to your central database over MySQL or PostgreSQL. The Node needs no database of its own.
Scale Out with the Node Maintenance Manager
Adding the first Remote Node upgrades a Standalone Sensor into a Master Management Server. The Node Maintenance Manager:
- Registers each Node
- Opens the database only to authorized Nodes
- Creates firewall rules scoped to each Node’s IP
- Generates a unique configuration file for every Node
- Validates your Nodes at any time, showing live online/offline status
Meet PorkBelly: The New Rules Updater
PorkBelly is our new Windows-native rules updater, built specifically for WinSnort. It downloads and installs your Snort rules with your Oinkcode and keeps backups, and it writes a log of every run. It also supports VRT Pro and custom rule subscriptions.
- Run on demand with one click, or schedule it as an unattended Windows task (every 30 minutes by default)
- SMTP email notifications report successful updates, failures, and no-change results, with a built-in Test button
- Per-install email settings, so each sensor sends its own notifications to the right people
- “No Change” suppression cuts routine email noise
One Console to Manage It All
The WinSnort Management Console gives you diagnostics, a system-tray service monitor (On, Off, Restart), Oinkcode updates, database management, and Cleanup/Restore. It shows only the tools that apply to your install type. Workstation installs also get a System Restore point before setup, so you can roll back.
