Is there a new install guide coming or is the current Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000 install guide going to be revised to reflect Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008? (Or, at least, Win Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005?) Particularly replacing/updating for SQL Server 2005/2008 seems appropriate since SQL Server 2000 is so far out of date. (Is it even still supported???) Much of the SQL Server 2000 information applies with the exception of the organization of the SQL Server Management Studio.

Oh, and it would be nice if an addendum to a SQL 2005/2008 install guide include using SQLExpress.

I have everything to do the project, it's just getting the time. The OS isn't the problem, it's MSSQL. I have very limited knowledge on this.

There was someone walking me through the process but I've been unable to reconnect.

It would have to be a free to use version of MSSQL for evaluation.

The below link is what I was using:
http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/express.aspx

Three tasks need to be complete to update Server installs for the WinIDS:

Task 1: Windows Server 2008 x86 needs to be updated.
Note: This can be handled very quickly in house

Task 2: The MSSQL 2000 install needs to be updated to MSSQLExpress 2008

Task 3: PHP needs updated as it handles the newer MSSQL a little differently
Note: This can be handled very quickly in house

Task 1, and task 3 is no problem, but task 2 is where we fall short on, experience and time.

Hi Morpheus,

Been a long time since I lasted logged on. I saw that database support was back and was wondering if MSSQL would be back. If you need help updating the scripts I will volunteer.

Sourcefire no longer supports database output. Everyone is subjected to using Barnyard2 for MySQL and PostgreSQL database support.

Hopfully ODBC support will be added in the near future, and at least that will allow MSSQL to connect.

There most likely won't be any native MSSQL support until Barnyard2 is ported to Windows.

The guides are ready, but there is no connection Sad
