Welcome to the new Winsnort.com 06/25/2015Winsnort.com has been major long term contributor to the Snort community since 2002. By default Winsnort.com is the place to visit if you are curious about running a network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) in the Windows (Win) environment (WinIDS). There have been literally thousands of modifications to the tutorials for the Windows Intrusion Detection System (WinIDS) in the last 13 years. There is support for a multitude of Windows operating systems in either32/64 bit architectures. Winsnort.com has always been a free service, and will continue to be for as long as possible. The new Winsnort.com website has been built from scratch. Winsnort.com now has the power to incorporate features, and security it always needed - essentially building out a single web destination for those looking to learn how to install a Windows Intrusion Detection System (WinIDS). Winsnort.com streamlined its navigation and member experience so that you have better access to the on-line tutorials and support message bases. The on-line tutorials now have a fresh new bold look that should make it easier to follow. Regretfully, the old user accounts, and forums never made the migration. Now Winsnort.com can look forward to exciting new futures. Winsnort.com is still in transition, so if anything needs attention please feel free to use the Contact Us form. Updated Pulledpork for Windows and Tutorial 08/31/2015After a very long period Winsnort.com has updated Pulledpork from 0.7.0 to 0.7.2. Pulledpork 0.7.2 has been thoroughly tested using the latest updated tutorial. If the tutorial is followed to the letter the end user will be able to automatically update the Rules, signatures, and update the sig-msg.map file from the command prompt. Please note that the Signatures are NOT updated with every update. When the Signatures do get automatically updated the process could take up to 60 minutes to complete. This is because Perl is transferring almost 20 thousand signatures and the Perl process is painfully slow. Note: In addition of accessing the correct support forum from the list of support forums, there is also a 'Get Support' button located at the top of every tutorial that will transport you to the correct forum for support for that particular tutorial.
Compiling process for Barnyard2 has changed! 09/16/2015There is a new tutorial that deals specifically with compiling Barnyard2 on Windows using the Cygwin UNIX emulator for the PostgreSQL database server. In the past Winsnort.com has furnished a tutorial that allowed compiling of both the MySQL, and the PostgreSQL database server for Barnyard2. Sometime in the past few months something has changed in the source code for MySQL and the compiling process is failing. I am working with the Baqrnyard2 developers and the MySQL support forums to try and clear up the problem. It is important to know that of this date the current build of Barnyard2 build 333 is current. The current build has been and has always been available in the core software packs. It is really not necessary to compile Barnyard2. The biggest reason for creating a new compile revolves around the version of the database installed. Barnyard2 is specifically built for specific versions of the database. The Barnyard2 binary in the Winsnort.com core software packs are in sync with the database that is being installed per each tutorial. If anywhere down the line there is a database upgrade to an existing Windows Intrusion Detection System (WinIDS) then compiling a new version of Barnyard2 with the new source code could be beneficial. With that said, Winsnort.com does update the database versions periodically and Barnyard2 is updated to be in sync with the new version of the database. Just come and check out the tutorial that was originally used and if it shows a newer version, just grab the latest Barnyard2 from the core software pack, and download the newer database server from the tutorial. If you have any questions, or need assistance just leave a note in the Client Lounge support forum using the Get Support! button below.
