Welcome to the new Winsnort.com 06/25/2015Winsnort.com has been major long term contributor to the Snort community since 2002. By default Winsnort.com is the place to visit if you are curious about running a network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) in the Windows (Win) environment (WinIDS). There have been literally thousands of modifications to the tutorials for the Windows Intrusion Detection System (WinIDS) in the last 13 years. There is support for a multitude of Windows operating systems in either32/64 bit architectures. Winsnort.com has always been a free service, and will continue to be for as long as possible. The new Winsnort.com website has been built from scratch. Winsnort.com now has the power to incorporate features, and security it always needed - essentially building out a single web destination for those looking to learn how to install an Intrusion Detection System based on the Microsoft Windows operating system. Winsnort.com streamlined its navigation and member experience so that you have better access to the on-line tutorials and support message bases. The on-line tutorials now have a fresh new bold look that should make it easier to follow. Regretfully, the old user accounts, and forums never made the migration. WinIDS Software Support Programs Updated 01/26/2019Several support programs have been updated : Apache2 has been updated from 2.4.37 to 2.4.38 MySQL has been updated from 8.0.13 to 8.0.14 PostgreSQL x64 has been added 11.1-1 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 has been added Npcap Packet Capturing Library 0.99-r9 has replaced WinPcap 4.1.13 Recompiled Barnyard2 for any new database versions listed above... Note: The Windows Intrusion Detection System has been using WinPcap since 2002 for capturing packets. WinPcap has been abandoned for the last several years and there were some quirks with it. Winsnort.com has been testing out a new packet capturing library for the last several weeks called Npcap. There have been no issues and Npcap has replace WinPcap in all the tutorials.
Winsnort.com has completed a major update to the Local Syslog Server tutorial, and created a new Remote Syslog Server tutorial.
WinIDS Software Support Programs Updated 04/13/2019Snort 18.104.22.168 has been released.
The release notes for the newest version are below:
New Additions Snort now supports reload on snort rules update. Addition of a scenario to add a packet to blacklist verdict to ensure the new session will be allowed. Handled a new pre-processor alert in case of the improper end of t HTTP header. Improvements Modified the calculation of file hash for FTP/HTTP with offset values. Fixed portal authentication connection stuck in half closed state. Updated UDP global timeout for a non-standard port.
